About

I'm a values led leader in strategy and design. My work sits at the intersection of storytelling, making sense of complexity, aligning people around what matters, and creating systems that endure.

I began in design when the iPhone was new and optimism was high. Over the years I've led transformations across consulting, product, and global organisations, founded The Outlook festival to reignite community, and coached leaders into their next chapter.

But what defines me isn't just the work I've done, it's the way I've chosen to lead. I believe in creating systems that endure, in aligning people around what matters, and in making sense of complexity through clear storytelling.

My approach is grounded in values, authenticity, and the belief that great leadership creates lasting impact.

Design as clarity

Design is often misread as a finishing layer. Drawing on two decades across technology, government, and professional services, this talk reframes it as the method for making sense of the unknown: clarity in ambiguity, direction through complexity, and confidence where none exists.

Manifesto

I wrote the original version of this in 2010 and have evolved it ever so slightly to represent the things that are important to me, and the things I want to live and breathe at home and at work.

On design

Design begins with words. There are no exceptions.

Design without research is speculation.

Design without feedback is art.

Designers are specialist practitioners, while, Design Thinking and HCD are generalist methods.

Perfect the details. There are no exceptions.

Design thrives on strong relationships and needs other disciplines to survive.
